About This Platform

One continuous scene from GNSS satellites through survey vessels and platforms to ROVs, divers and the mapped seabed – the domains this platform covers, connected

Geomatics Expert began with a specific gap: the absence of independent, expert-level analysis of geomatics topics that decision-makers can actually use. The name honours that starting point – but the platform has long outgrown it.

Today we cover the full technical spectrum of marine and offshore operations, because in real projects these disciplines are not separate. The same campaign that needs centimetre positioning also needs a sound survey spread, a safe DP vessel, a competent diving or ROV contractor, honest metocean limits, and data that lands in the right GIS layer. We write about the whole chain – and about the seams between its links, where projects actually fail.

What We Cover

  • Positioning & geodesy – GNSS/PNT, reference frames, deformation monitoring, and what happens offshore when positioning degrades
  • Hydrography & seabed mapping – multibeam, side-scan, SAS, out-of-straightness and burial surveys, and the accuracy standards behind them
  • Diving & ROV operations – subsea inspection, repair and maintenance, SIMOPS, and the operational safety that underwrites all of it
  • Marine operations safety & assurance – DP incidents, vessel vetting, marine warranty, and the contracts that make honesty cheaper than silence
  • GIS & geoinformation – spatial data infrastructure, common operating pictures, and survey deliverables that survive contact with the asset database
  • Metocean – environmental limits, forecasting reality, and the schedule risk nobody prices
  • Autonomy – USVs, AUVs and resident vehicles, and what it takes to trust them with real scopes
  • Standards, unpacked – what IMCA, IHO, IOGP and DNV documents actually require, where they stop, and what that means for your project

The Problem We Solve

Most available content in these fields falls into one of three categories: equipment vendor marketing, academic papers, or generic industry news. None of these serve the people who actually make decisions – project managers, survey and subsea managers, discipline leads, and technical advisors across onshore and offshore sectors.

These professionals need content that addresses real operational challenges: how to evaluate deliverables, when specifications fall short, what audit findings actually mean, and where common approaches fail to protect project interests.

Our Approach

Every article on this platform is written from hands-on operational experience in these fields. We focus on:

  • Decision support – not just explaining what exists, but helping readers decide what to do
  • Standards vs reality – unpacking what industry standards actually require and where they leave gaps
  • Failure patterns – identifying recurring mistakes before they become costly lessons
  • Practical perspective – writing for the people who carry the risk, not just the people who do the work
